    Each year Freedom to Read Foundation distributes grants to non-profit organizations to support activities which raise awareness of intellectual freedom and censorship issues during the annual Banned Books Week celebration.


    In 2020, Banned Books Week is September 27-October 3, 2020.

    The proposed Banned Books Week project can be one event or they can encompass multiple events. Similarly, projects can last one day, an entire week, or longer.

    All expenditures of Krug Fund grants should be directly related to Banned Books Week-related activities. Grantees are encouraged to share their events on social media and local press.

  • Eligibility Details

    Libraries, schools and universities are encouraged to apply. Only not-for-profit organizations may apply, but they need not have official 501(c)3 status. To be eligible for a grant, organizations must not have been a recipient of an FTRF grant within the past five years.

    Deadline Details

    Applications are to be submitted by May 31, 2020. A similar deadline date is anticipated annually.

    Award Details

    Grants are awarded at two levels, $1,000 and $2,500.
