    Summary

The 2019 Agriculture Appropriations Act authorized funds that allow the Ohio Department of Education, Office of Integrated Student Supports to competitively award equipment assistance grants to eligible School Food Authorities participating in the National School Lunch Program.

These funds allow for the purchase or renovation of capital equipment used to serve healthier meals, meet the new nutritional standards with emphasis on more fresh fruits and vegetables in school meals, improve food safety and expand accessibility to food services.

Priority for 2019-2020 Equipment Assistance Grant funds will be given to high-need schools where 50 percent or more of enrolled students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Additional priority will be given to schools that did not receive a previous National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant award under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and Fiscal Year 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 or 2019 Agriculture Appropriations Acts.
